Samaher al-Daour, who watched her son suffer in the sweltering heat, wishes the war had taken her life early on. Haitham, a 20-year-old amputee, finds recovery nearly impossible in the blistering conditions, while millions live in overcrowded shelters with no electricity or clean water.
