The Allahabad High Court on Wednesday postponed the hearing of a plea challenging a Varanasi court's decision not to direct the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to survey the 'wazukhana' area of the Gyanvapi mosque, attributed to the counsel for the Muslim side reporting illness.
Previously, the high court had given the mosque management committee a month to file a counter affidavit, with a hearing scheduled for August 14. However, due to the illness slip submitted by the counsel for the Muslim side, the court has now adjourned the hearing to August 22.
Justice Rohit Ranjan Agarwal is overseeing the case brought forth by Rakhi Singh, a plaintiff in the Shringar Gauri worship suit. Singh argues the survey is crucial for a fair verdict. Meanwhile, the ASI conducted a survey based on an order by the Varanasi district judge, aiming to ascertain if the mosque was built over a Hindu temple.
