A couple in Abdullapuram village in Nandyala district tragically ended their lives due to insurmountable debts incurred by their son's online gambling, police reported on Wednesday.
U Maheshwar Reddy, 45, and his wife consumed a soft drink laced with insecticide on Tuesday night. The debts, totaling crores of rupees, had forced Maheshwar Reddy to sell five acres of land, the family home, and other assets as part of a local kangaroo court settlement.
The couple had been living with a relative for the past six months while facing mounting pressure from lenders, which eventually led them to take this extreme measure.
