Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Foxconn Chairman Young Liu on Wednesday to discuss the company's investment plans. This meeting comes weeks after an investigation was launched into alleged hiring discrimination at a Foxconn plant.
Modi emphasized the investment opportunities in futuristic sectors that India offers, posting photos of the meeting on social media. Discussions centered on investment plans in states such as Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh. Modi believes that Foxconn's iPhone factory and Apple's expanded supply chain in India could significantly enhance the country's economic value.
A Reuters report had revealed that Foxconn excluded married women from assembly jobs in their Tamil Nadu plant. Foxconn has acknowledged some hiring issues and stated they are working to rectify them. However, New Delhi's findings from its ordered investigation have yet to be released.
