Ukraine's Advancements in Kursk: A Strategic Push

Ukraine's top commander announced on Thursday that Kyiv had set up a military commandant's office in the occupied part of Russia's Kursk region. He stated that Ukrainian forces are still advancing and had captured up to 1.5 km in the past 24 hours.

Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi informed President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in a video that Kyiv's forces had advanced 35 km into the Kursk region since launching an incursion last week. This unexpected surge into Russian territory has taken Moscow by surprise, shifting the initiative from Russian forces who have made gradual gains in eastern Ukraine throughout the year.

Syrskyi reported that Ukrainian forces had secured control over 82 settlements and a total area of 1,150 square kilometers. He announced the appointment of Major General Eduard Moskalyov to lead the new military commandant's office, which will ensure order and address the needs of the local population. 'We are moving forward in Kursk region. A military commandant's office has been created which must ensure order and also all the needs of the local population,' Syrskyi stated on his Telegram channel.
