In an unexpected move, Brig Gen (retd) M Sakhawat Hussain was replaced by Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury as home adviser of Bangladesh's interim government, just three days after his appointment.
The shuffle, confirmed late Friday, was part of a wider reorganization undertaken by Chief Advisor Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus and included the induction of four new advisers, bringing their total number to 21.
Following controversy and criticism, including remarks from student leaders and political groups, Sakhawat has now been reassigned to the textiles and jute ministry. This overhaul comes shortly after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and sought refuge in India.
