The South China Sea witnessed a spike in tensions early Monday as China's coast guard accused the Philippines of intentionally crashing a ship into a Chinese vessel near Sabina Shoal.
According to a spokesperson, two Philippine coast guard ships entered the waters near the shoal and “deliberately collided” with a Chinese boat. The Philippines has yet to issue a comment on the incident.
The confrontation adds to the ongoing territorial disputes between China and the Philippines, with overlapping claims involving Vietnam and Taiwan complicating the situation further.
