The lie detection tests on the main accused and six others in the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital commenced on Saturday, officials disclosed.
The polygraph test for the primary accused, Sanjay Roy, will take place in prison, while the remaining six, including former principal Sandip Ghosh, four on-duty doctors, and a civil volunteer, will undergo tests at the agency's office, according to officials.
A team of polygraph specialists from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in Delhi has arrived in Kolkata to perform these tests, they said.
The CBI informed the Supreme Court on Thursday about an alleged cover-up effort by local police, revealing that the crime scene was altered before the federal agency took over the probe.
The rape and murder of the junior doctor at the hospital's seminar hall has led to widespread protests.
The medic's body, bearing severe injury marks, was discovered in the seminar hall of the hospital's chest department on the morning of August 9. Roy was apprehended the next day.
On August 13, the Calcutta High Court mandated the transfer of the investigation from the Kolkata Police to the CBI, which commenced its probe on August 14.
