Brazilian Supreme Court Orders Elon Musk's X Platform to Appoint Legal Representative
Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes ordered Elon Musk's messaging platform X to appoint a legal representative in Brazil within 24 hours, or face suspension. The decision follows X's recent announcement to close operations in Brazil due to alleged censorship. Musk criticized the court's actions on social media.
Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes has mandated that Elon Musk's messaging platform X must designate a legal representative in Brazil within 24 hours or face potential suspension.
Earlier this month, X declared its intention to cease operations and terminate its staff in Brazil, citing "censorship orders" from Moraes. Despite these claims, the service remains accessible to Brazilian users. The Supreme Court publicized Wednesday's court decision on its X account, tagging Musk and X's Global Government Affairs.
Legal documentation from Moraes stated that companies failing to comply with Brazilian internet regulations and confidentiality laws might have their operations temporarily halted. Responding to the ruling, Musk accused Moraes of violating the very laws he pledged to uphold.
