Delhi High Court Schedules Bail Hearing for Umar Khalid and Co-accused
The Delhi High Court has set October 7 for hearing the bail plea of former JNU student Umar Khalid who faces charges under the UAPA for his alleged role in the February 2020 communal riots. The court also scheduled hearings for other activists, including Sharjeel Imam and Khalid Saifi.

The Delhi High Court has scheduled October 7 for addressing the bail plea of Umar Khalid, a former JNU student, charged under the anti-terror law UAPA for the alleged conspiracy behind the February 2020 communal riots in Delhi.
Justice Suresh Kumar Kait and Justice Girish Kathpalia will also review on the same day the bail applications of other activists involved, including Sharjeel Imam and Khalid Saifi. Umar Khalid's senior counsel mentioned the Delhi Police have yet to respond to the bail petition, despite a previous notice.
Filed on July 24, the original notice remains unanswered. In related news, Khalid has been in judicial custody since his arrest in September 2020; his earlier attempts at bail were denied, citing substantial allegations and prior court rulings.
