Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud on Friday commended Justice Hima Kohli during a ceremonial bench marking her retirement. He praised her not only as a woman judge but also as a fierce protector of women's rights.
Justice Kohli, who retires on September 1, was the ninth in seniority among the apex court judges. Following her retirement, the Supreme Court will have only two women judges left—Justice B V Nagarathna and Justice Bela M Trivedi.
Attorney General R Venkataramani and Solicitor General Tushar Mehta also lauded Justice Kohli, noting her dedication to justice and compassionate rulings. Supreme Court Bar Association president and senior advocate Kapil Sibal highlighted her empathetic yet stern demeanor.
