Zelenskiy Pushes for Long-Range Weapons as Washington Sends Aid
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy urged Western allies to provide Kyiv with long-range weapons to pressure Russia, while the U.S. pledged $250 million in aid during a meeting at Ramstein Air Base. Zelenskiy emphasized the need for these capabilities as Ukrainian forces make significant strides despite ongoing Russian offensives.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy called on Western allies to disregard Moscow's "red lines" and permit Kyiv to use long-range weapons for strikes on Russian territory. This appeal came as Washington committed an additional $250 million in military aid for Ukraine.
Speaking at a U.S.-hosted gathering at Ramstein Air Base in Germany, Zelenskiy positioned long-range strike capabilities as essential for compelling Russia towards peace negotiations. His comments coincided with a surprise Ukrainian offensive in Russia's Kursk region, even as Russian forces concentrated efforts on capturing Pokrovsk in eastern Ukraine.
U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin highlighted the Kursk offensive as a demonstration of Ukraine's initiative, despite Russia's ongoing attacks. Austin announced further Western support, with Germany and Canada pledging additional weaponry, while Zelenskiy reported significant gains in Kursk. Nevertheless, he stressed the urgency of receiving more air defense systems amid continuous Russian bombardments.
