Midnight on Sunday saw cities and towns across West Bengal echo with demands for justice for the RG Kar Medical College rape-murder victim. Protesters from various walks of life, including students, teachers, professionals, and rickshaw pullers, took to the streets, forming human chains and holding torches.
The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the suo motu case related to the crime on Monday, bolstering hope among demonstrators. The protests, which included singing the national anthem and waving the tricolour, spanned multiple locations including Kolkata, Siliguri, and Durgapur.
In a show of unprecedented solidarity, people rallied under the banner of 'Reclaim the night'. Highlighting the significance of the protests, the participants referred to the victim as 'daughter of the Goddess' symbolizing the call for justice, just ahead of Durga Puja celebrations.
