In a significant development, a special court on Monday acquitted former BJP MLA Aakash Vijayvargiya in a 2019 assault case involving a municipal building inspector. The court cited the prosecution's failure to prove the charges as the primary reason for the acquittal. Aakash Vijayvargiya, son of Madhya Pradesh minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, was among the ten accused who were cleared of all charges.

Defence lawyer Udaypratap Singh Kushwah revealed that Judge Dev Kumar presided over the special court, which is designated for criminal matters involving MPs and MLAs. The prosecution could not authenticate the alleged video evidence, and key witnesses did not support the prosecution's version, leading to the acquittal.

The case, registered under various IPC sections, stemmed from an alleged incident on June 26, 2019, where Vijayvargiya purportedly assaulted a building inspector while protesting a house demolition in Indore. A purported video of the incident had gone viral, resulting in Vijayvargiya's arrest and subsequent bail. During cross-examination, the complainant officer stated he could not identify his assailant due to being on a phone call at the time.
