Germany Strengthens Border Controls Amid Rising Security Concerns

Interior Minister Nancy Faeser announced the move in a news conference, highlighting the goal to strengthen internal security. The controls will impact borders with France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Denmark for six months, starting from September 16.

These measures add to restrictions already in place on the borders with Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria, and Switzerland. Faeser pointed out that since last October, Germany has rejected over 30,000 border-crossing attempts. The move comes amid political pressure following recent violent incidents and increasing support for the far-right party, Alternative for Germany.
