Greek authorities have apprehended a 40-year-old Turkish national suspected of involvement in a criminal gang operating in Turkey, according to a police statement released on Friday.
The arrest took place on the island of Chios on Wednesday. The man was found carrying false Italian identification documents and an illegal firearm.
A raid on his residence resulted in the confiscation of a gun and bullets, and an official investigation has been launched. This arrest marks a recent instance of suspected criminal activity linked to Turkish gangs in Greece. Both countries, despite being NATO allies with historic tensions, have increased cooperation in areas including security in recent months.
