Protester Interrupts UK's Rachel Reeves at Labour Conference
During the Labour conference in Liverpool, British finance minister Rachel Reeves was interrupted by a pro-Palestinian protester. The protester, who was removed by security, criticized the sale of arms to Israel. Recently, the UK suspended 30 arms export licenses to Israel due to humanitarian law concerns.
British finance minister Rachel Reeves was interrupted by a pro-Palestinian protester on Monday while she was delivering a speech at the Labour conference in Liverpool.
TV footage showed security removing the protester, who shouted: 'We are still selling arms to Israel. I thought we were voting for change, Rachel.' Reeves resumed her speech shortly after and received a standing ovation from Labour delegates.
Earlier this month, Britain suspended 30 out of its 350 arms export licences to Israel over concerns that the equipment might be used to commit serious violations of international humanitarian law. Foreign Secretary David Lammy clarified that the suspension did not amount to a full arms embargo but targeted exports that could be used in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
