Court Acquits 10 in Muzaffarnagar Communal Riots Case

A court has acquitted 10 individuals accused of killing a man during the 2013 communal riots in Muzaffarnagar and Shamli districts due to lack of evidence. Additional District Sessions Judge Anjani Kumar Singh ruled that the prosecution failed to prove its case. Key witnesses, including the complainant, turned hostile during the hearing.

A court has acquitted 10 individuals accused of killing a man during the communal riots in Muzaffarnagar and Shamli districts in 2013, citing insufficient evidence.

Additional District Sessions Judge Anjani Kumar Singh found that the prosecution could not substantiate its claims, leading to the acquittal of Gaurav, Amarpal, Rocky, Ratan, Dinesh, Yogesh, Abhishek, Roobi, Kapil Kumar, and Manoj Kumar. The judgment was issued on September 26 and revealed two days later.

The case was initiated after complainant Imrana filed an FIR alleging her husband Ashu was beaten to death by rioters at Phugana village. Despite a charge sheet filed by the Special Investigation Team, witnesses, including Imrana and the deceased's mother, Wakila, turned hostile, undermining the prosecution's argument. The 2013 riots resulted in over 60 deaths and displaced more than 40,000 people.
