Goa Implements Mandatory Tenant Verification Drive

Residents must submit tenant details to local police by October 10 or face a Rs 10,000 fine and legal action. The initiative follows a high crime detection rate but aims to prevent crimes by outsiders.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced on Monday that the police have been directed to conduct a comprehensive drive to achieve 100 percent tenant verification in their jurisdictions. This move aims to control crime more effectively.

Sawant warned that any resident who fails to submit tenant details to the local police station before October 10 will face a Rs 10,000 fine and a case will be registered against them. The decision for this verification drive was made during a meeting with senior police officers on Sunday.

Although the state police boast a 98 percent crime detection rate, Sawant pointed out that many crimes involve individuals from outside the state. In some instances, police have had to travel outside Goa to apprehend suspects. To avoid such situations, tenant verification has now been made mandatory.
