Supreme Court decision

The U.S. Supreme Court is poised to rule on the legality of a regulation from President Joe Biden's administration aimed at curtailing the spread of 'ghost guns'—untraceable firearms linked to a surge in crimes nationwide.

The administration is contesting a lower court's decision which declared that the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) overstepped its authority by issuing a 2022 rule that regulates ghost gun kits and parts.

This decision affects online-purchased kits that are easily assembled into firearms. The contested rule mandates that these kits carry serial numbers, requires manufacturers to obtain licenses, and enforces background checks, akin to commercially made firearms, as per the 1968 Gun Control Act.
