Akola Violence: Arrests Made Amidst Social Media Rumor Appeal
Sixteen people have been arrested in connection with communal violence in Akola, Maharashtra, sparked by an altercation over an auto accident. In a swift response to communal violence in Akola city, Maharashtra, police have apprehended 16 individuals. The unrest, ignited by a minor collision between an auto-rickshaw and a two-wheeler, has seen tensions flare between two community groups.
The incident escalated on Monday with stone pelting and the torching of three motorcycles and an auto-rickshaw. To maintain order, the police have increased their presence in the affected area.
A police official, Nitin Levarkar, confirmed that court proceedings resulted in varying custody for the accused, as officers continue to implore the public to dismiss harmful rumors circulating on social media.
