Akola Violence: Arrests Made Amidst Social Media Rumor Appeal

Sixteen people have been arrested in connection with communal violence in Akola, Maharashtra, sparked by an altercation over an auto accident. Police urge public not to believe social media rumors, while assuring the situation's control with added personnel. Court remanded suspects to both police and judicial custody.

In a swift response to communal violence in Akola city, Maharashtra, police have apprehended 16 individuals. The unrest, ignited by a minor collision between an auto-rickshaw and a two-wheeler, has seen tensions flare between two community groups.

The incident escalated on Monday with stone pelting and the torching of three motorcycles and an auto-rickshaw. To maintain order, the police have increased their presence in the affected area.

A police official, Nitin Levarkar, confirmed that court proceedings resulted in varying custody for the accused, as officers continue to implore the public to dismiss harmful rumors circulating on social media.
