Undercover Opium Trade Busted: DRI Nabs Smugglers in Maharashtra

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has apprehended four individuals allegedly involved in smuggling a substantial 9.69 kilograms of opium from Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, to Mumbai, Maharashtra, according to officials on Friday.
Acting on a tip-off, authorities intercepted a truck near a toll plaza as it made its way into Maharashtra early Wednesday morning. Upon inspection, the contraband tested positive for opium using a field test kit.
Subsequently, arrests were made of the receiver and supplier in Mumbai and Ratlam, respectively. Additionally, authorities detained a cultivator in Madhya Pradesh who was illegally diverting opium. All four suspects face charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, as investigations continue to delve into the depths of the smuggling network.
