Intensified Tensions: Russia's Nightly Drone Attacks on Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia
Russia launched drones and missiles targeting Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia, causing casualties and infrastructure damage. The Ukrainian military intercepted most drones, yet some fell. Local authorities reported civilian injuries and fatalities from attacks in southeastern Ukraine. Both countries deny intentional civilian targeting in this prolonged conflict.
In a second consecutive night of onslaught, Russia unleashed a barrage of drone attacks on Kyiv, damaging residential areas and injuring civilians, Ukrainian officials reported on Monday.
Tragically, a separate ballistic missile attack in Zaporizhzhia claimed two lives and left 15 injured early Monday, according to local authorities. Despite Ukrainian defenses intercepting 59 of 116 drones, some unfortunately evaded detection and crashed within the area.
Military head Serhiy Popko noted that Kyiv's air defenses thwarted about 10 drones, while debris caused collateral damage to buildings and power lines. The air raid alarms lasted over five hours before skies cleared.
