Streamlining Access: New Disability Rules Unveiled

The government has introduced new amendments to the Rights of Persons with Disabilities rules to ease the application process for disability certificates and UDID cards. The changes aim to improve accessibility, specify color-coded cards based on disability level, and ensure timely issuance of documentation.

The government has enacted amendments to the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) rules designed to simplify the application procedures for disability certificates and Unique Disability Identity (UDID) Cards. These adjustments are intended to enhance accessibility and offer more efficient services for individuals with disabilities.

Under the revised rules, applicants with specified disabilities can apply for the necessary documentation via the UDID portal, forwarding their applications to the appropriate district medical authorities or the medical facilities where they receive treatment.

The regulation updates also feature the introduction of color-coded UDID cards indicating various disability levels: White for less than 40 percent, Yellow for 40-79 percent, and Blue for 80 percent or more. Medical authorities are mandated to issue documentation within three months of diagnosis to ensure efficiency.
