A tragic incident unfolded as a Jadavpur University professor named Mainak Pal was discovered dead in the bathroom of a Lalkuan hotel, reportedly due to self-inflicted wounds. His unexpected demise raised concerns among his family after they could not reach him.

Pal, a philosophy department faculty member, had been on a visit to Nainital but cut it short, planning to return home the morning he was found. The hotel's staff intervened by opening his room when relatives reported their inability to connect with him.

Lalkuan Circle Officer Deepshikha Agarwal stated that an ambulance transported Pal to Sushila Tiwari Hospital in Haldwani, where a post-mortem was performed. Initial assessments indicate a suicide, though the final report is pending review.
