Saudi Arabia Condemns Israel's Actions, Seeks UN Assembly Sanctions
Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman denounced Israel's actions against Palestinians as genocide during a summit of Arab and Muslim leaders. The kingdom reaffirmed its stance against Israel unless a Palestinian state is formed. Recent events put normalization efforts with Israel on hold, with calls for UN sanctions.
Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman condemned Israel's actions against Palestinians, labeling them as genocide, during a summit of Arab and Muslim leaders. The Kingdom's position remains unchanged: it will not recognize Israel unless a Palestinian state is established. His remarks echoed statements made by Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.
The crown prince called on the international community to halt Israel's aggression against Iran and to respect Iranian sovereignty. These comments come amid stalled normalization efforts with Israel, influenced by recent escalations, including Hamas' attacks on October 7, 2023, and the subsequent Israeli response.
Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit suggested the possibility of freezing Israel's membership in the UN General Assembly as a response. Summit leaders demanded an embargo on weapons to Israel and called for the International Criminal Court to issue arrest warrants for Israeli officials, as the military's actions in Gaza have led to a severe humanitarian crisis.
