Rescue and Response: Telangana Fire Department's 2024 Performance Report

The Telangana Fire Disaster Response Emergency and Civil Defence Department attended 7,383 fire calls in 2024, a slight decrease from the previous year. However, medium fire and rescue calls saw an increase. The department also expanded its awareness programs and proposed amendments to the Telangana Fire Service Act.

The Telangana Fire Disaster Response Emergency and Civil Defence Department reported attending 7,383 fire calls in 2024, marking a 0.23% decrease from 2023's figures, according to Director General Y Nagi Reddy. However, medium fire calls showed a 5.9% uptick this year.

Rescue operations increased by 7.29%, with 2,459 rescue calls compared to last year. These included 2,356 related to flood and fire accidents, lift and human rescue operations, and 103 animal rescues. Overall, emergency calls saw a 10.82% rise, the report revealed.

The department conducted 8,433 awareness programs in 2024, nearly doubling last year's number. Proposals to amend the Telangana Fire Service Act are on the table to align with Hyderabad's growth as a global city. Plans for women reservations in the department, akin to the Police force, are also underway.
