Key Terror Operative Nabbed in Chennai Under 'Operation PRAGHAT'

Assam's Special Task Force arrested Abu Salam Ali, a key operative of Ansarullah Bangla Team and Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen, in Chennai. The operation, involving Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu police, was part of 'Operation PRAGHAT' targeting extremist networks across India. Ali was connected to previous arrests in Assam and was involved in arms conspiracies.

In a significant breakthrough for counter-terrorism efforts, Assam's Special Task Force has apprehended Abu Salam Ali, a key operative of the Ansarullah Bangla Team and Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen, in Chennai. The arrest was made in collaboration with the Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu police.

The operation falls under 'Operation PRAGHAT', an initiative aimed at dismantling fundamentalist and global terrorist networks across India. STF Inspector General Parthasarathi Mahanta stated that Ali was apprehended in the early hours of February 12 from the Semmencherry area in Chennai, based on intelligence inputs and technical support.

Authorities allege that Ali played a pivotal role in conspiracies alongside Nur Islam Mandal and Shahinur Islam, with aims to enhance extremist factions. He has been charged under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and other legal acts. The arrest follows the detention of eight fundamentalists in Assam last December, highlighting an ongoing crackdown on terrorism.
