Dating App Trap: IT Professional Robbed in Delhi

An IT professional was allegedly lured, robbed, and extorted via a dating app in northeast Delhi. The victim met a person online, was taken to a secluded house, and was threatened by a group of men. The assailants expropriated Rs 1.25 lakh before the victim escaped.

A case of alleged robbery and extortion has surfaced from northeast Delhi involving a 36-year-old IT professional. According to the police, on January 4, the victim reported an incident that took place on January 3, where he was manipulated via a dating application and then extorted by a group of men, including a juvenile.

The victim had connected with one of the accused in December and was subsequently invited to meet at Gokulpuri Metro Station. The victim was then led to a house under the pretense of having a casual gathering, which soon turned into a nightmare as four men barged in, accusing him of immoral activities.

Frightened by threats involving police and public shame, the victim complied with demands to hand over his phone, giving the attackers access to his bank accounts. A sum of Rs 1.25 lakh was transferred before he was released. Police have arrested four suspects in connection with this incident.
