Tulsi Gabbard, the former Democratic congresswoman from Hawaii, officially assumed her new role as the US Director of National Intelligence on Wednesday, following confirmation by the Senate. The swearing-in ceremony, which took place in the Oval Office, was presided over by Attorney General Pam Bondi.
One of her first official duties was meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who expressed his enthusiasm for enhancing the India-US partnership. Gabbard reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening ties, with both leaders highlighting the importance of intelligence cooperation, particularly in counter-terrorism and cybersecurity.
Gabbard, described by President Trump as a patriotic American with extraordinary courage, intends to restore trust in the intelligence community. Facing initial bipartisan skepticism, her appointment was confirmed by a narrow Senate vote of 52-48.
