In a significant diplomatic development, India and Qatar have set an ambitious goal to double their trade volume to $28 billion over the next five years. This announcement emerged following high-level discussions between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, who is currently on a two-day official visit to New Delhi.
The two leaders are exploring the possibility of signing a free trade agreement as part of their efforts to enhance economic ties. A senior official from the Indian foreign ministry highlighted the commitment from both sides to unleash the full potential of their trade relationship.
Additionally, discussions also focused on broadening the scope of energy cooperation, which remains a critical component of bilateral ties between the two nations.
