Supreme Court Orders Swift Probe Against MLA Abbas Ansari

The Supreme Court has directed the Uttar Pradesh police to wrap up their probe against MLA Abbas Ansari in a Gangsters Act case within 10 days. Ansari, fearing an encounter, sought virtual trial court proceedings. Previously, his bail was denied by Allahabad High Court citing an ongoing investigation.

The Supreme Court mandated Uttar Pradesh police to conclude their investigation into MLA Abbas Ansari under the Gangsters Act within a 10-day timeframe. This decision follows an earlier rejection of Ansari's bail application by the Allahabad High Court due to an ongoing probe into alleged gang activities for financial gain.

Justice Surya Kant and Justice N Kotiswar Singh presided over the bench that announced the directive. This move came after Ansari expressed concerns of an encounter, opting for virtual appearances in court proceedings. The case dates back to an FIR filed on August 31, 2024, implicating Ansari and several associates for extortion and assault.

As a representative of the Mau constituency from the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party, Ansari's legal battles continue with the Supreme Court stating that it would deliberate on his bail request post-investigation. His arrest on September 6, 2024, marks a significant development in the ongoing case.
