Lawyers across Uttarakhand staged a protest against the Advocate's Amendment Bill, 2025, demanding its immediate withdrawal. They expressed concerns that the bill's provisions, particularly Section 45B, would deter independent advocacy.

The protest, spearheaded by the Nainital High Court Bar Association under President D S Mehta, witnessed participation from numerous District Bar Associations. The protestors argued that the bill could impede independent advocates while big organizations remain unaffected.

The bill allows for complaints against advocates for misconduct, a clause the bar associations believe could stifle independent legal work. They pointed out that existing regulations already address issues of misconduct, and the amendment would unfairly burden smaller practitioners.
