High Court Push for Swift Decision in Engineer Rashid's Bail Plea

In a significant legal development, the Delhi High Court on Monday called for a prompt resolution to the bail application of MP Abdul Rashid Sheikh, also known as Engineer Rashid, currently jailed in connection with a terror funding case. The high court stressed the need for expeditious handling by the NIA court.

Justice Vikas Mahajan requested the Patiala House Court to prioritize the petitioner's bail application, which has been lingering since August. The court granted interim relief in February, allowing Sheikh to attend Parliament for two days. Sheikh's legal struggle highlights the complexities surrounding jurisdictional issues and the timing of legal processes.

In light of the clarification from the Supreme Court, the NIA court retained jurisdiction over cases involving lawmakers, aiding in potentially faster legal proceedings for Engineer Rashid. The MP faces allegations of funding separatist factions and terror groups in Jammu and Kashmir, as well as connections to designated terrorist Hafeez Saeed.
