Organized by India, the event focused on 'Women Peacekeepers from the Global South', bringing together representatives from 35 nations to discuss women's evolving roles in peacekeeping missions. This initiative looks to foster dialogue, share experiences, and enhance collaboration among Global South nations to empower women in these operations.
Jaishankar reiterated that India has a long history of contributions to UN peacekeeping, having provided over 290,000 peacekeepers since the 1950s. He emphasized India's commitment to increasing women's participation, noting their vital role in diversifying and enhancing mission effectiveness.
