Ukraine marked three years of war with Russia, gathering European leaders as U.S. officials stayed away, indicating a diplomatic pivot to Moscow. Amidst tension with President Trump, Kyiv seeks a U.S. mineral wealth deal for support. European leaders urge increased defence spending as diplomatic dynamics shift.
Ukraine gathered European leadership on Monday to mark the third anniversary of its ongoing war with Russia. The absence of top U.S. officials at this commemoration highlighted President Donald Trump's recent policy shift towards Moscow.
With tension simmering between Trump and Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskiy over accusations and defensive stances, Kyiv emphasized its strategic push to finalize a mineral wealth agreement with Washington.
Despite the diplomatic strain, European leaders, including Ursula von der Leyen, rallied around Zelenskiy, urging for heightened defence efforts and stressing the broader implications of Ukraine's conflict on Europe's fate.
