The British government has announced a suspension of certain bilateral aid to Rwanda, citing its role in the ongoing conflict in Congo.
According to a government statement issued Tuesday, until there is notable progress towards peace and the withdrawal of the Rwanda Defence Forces from Congolese territory, the UK will implement several measures against Rwanda.
These measures include ceasing high-level participation in Rwandan-hosted events, limiting trade promotion activities, pausing direct financial aid to the Rwandan government with the exception of support for the poorest, and coordinating with international partners on potential sanctions. Additionally, future defense training assistance will be suspended, and export licenses for Rwanda's defense forces will be reviewed.
