The Taiwan Ministry of Defense reported detecting 32 Chinese aircraft executing a 'joint combat readiness drill' near the Taiwan Strait Wednesday morning. The ministry criticized Beijing for setting up a drills area dangerously close—40 nautical miles off Taiwan's coast—without notification.

This week, Taiwan also accused a Chinese-linked cargo ship of damaging an undersea communications cable. The incident underscores persistent tensions as China aims for reunification, a move Taiwan firmly opposes, stating only its inhabitants can decide their future.
