In a significant escalation of hostilities, Russia launched a massive overnight drone assault on Ukraine, primarily targeting the Kyiv region and vital energy infrastructure, authorities confirmed on Wednesday.
The attack comes at a time of increasing drone warfare, with Russia reportedly deploying up to 267 drones in a single night, showcasing an alarming intensification of their tactics. Ukraine's air defenses successfully intercepted 110 of the 177 drones launched, as stated by the air force.
While Kyiv, Kharkiv, Kirovohrad, and Sumy regions bore the brunt of the strikes, Ukraine's private energy company DTEK reported damages to a facility in the southeastern Dnipropetrovsk area. Meanwhile, drone attacks in the Kyiv region resulted in one civilian casualty and further injuries, heightening tensions in the ongoing conflict that began with Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022.
