Facebook Post Leads to Arrest Over Derogatory Remarks Against Union Minister

Two youths have been arrested in Budaun district for derogatory remarks against Union Minister B L Verma on Facebook and threatening a BJP youth leader. The incident led to a police case and subsequent arrests after a complaint was lodged by BJYM city president Vivek Rashtrawadi.

Authorities in Budaun district have arrested two youths on charges of making derogatory remarks against Union Minister B L Verma via a Facebook post. Their arrest comes after they allegedly threatened a Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha leader who confronted them about the offensive content, officials confirmed on Thursday.

The controversy erupted when BJYM city president Vivek Rashtrawadi filed a complaint with the police on Tuesday, citing that Manveer Shakya, Rupesh Shakya, and another individual named Gaurav had denigrated Verma on social media. When Rashtrawadi questioned the accused, they purportedly used abusive language and issued threats, escalating the situation.

Manveer and Rupesh have since been taken into custody, with Manveer detained by Kotwali police and Rupesh by Kadar Chowk police. Both individuals underwent medical checks and were presented before the SDM's court, which subsequently placed them in judicial custody. Efforts are ongoing to capture the third suspect, Gaurav, who is still at large.
