Rescue teams have made a breakthrough in the ongoing efforts to save eight men trapped in the partially collapsed SLBC tunnel. On Sunday, they recovered the body of Gurpreet Singh, a Tunnel Boring Machine operator from Punjab, after intensive digging operations lasting over 48 hours.
The rescue operation, which involves multiple agencies, continues as teams battle the harsh conditions inside the tunnel, including silt, water, and debris. Cadaver dogs and ground-penetrating radar were employed to locate signs of life, but efforts were hampered by the challenging environment.
Authorities have announced an ex-gratia of Rs 25 lakh for Singh's family. Meanwhile, the search for the remaining seven workers presses on as officials remain hopeful of further developments in this tragic rescue mission.
