Indonesia's Missile Choice: Decision Hanging in the Balance
Indonesia is weighing its options for purchasing missile systems, including those from India's BrahMos Aerospace. While multiple systems are under consideration, no formal decision has been made. BrahMos, a joint Indian-Russian venture, has been in talks with Indonesia over a potential $200-$350 million deal.
Indonesia remains undecided about purchasing missiles from BrahMos Aerospace, according to a defense ministry spokesperson speaking to Reuters.
Indonesia is evaluating multiple missile systems, not solely BrahMos, which is co-owned by the Indian and Russian governments. Discussions have been ongoing since 2023 concerning a deal estimated between $200 million and $350 million.
Spokesperson Frega Wenas stated that while BrahMos is under consideration, an official announcement would only follow a formal contract. Interest in BrahMos missiles is growing, notably in Southeast Asia and the Middle East, following its first international sale to the Philippines in 2022.
