In a dramatic turn of events, notorious gangster Aman Sao was killed during a brazen attempt by his gang to free him from police custody in Jharkhand's Palamu district on Tuesday. The incident occurred amid Sao's transfer from Raipur jail to Ranchi, leading to a gunfight that left one policeman injured, officials reported.

According to Medininagar Sub-divisional Police Officer Manibhushan Prasad, the attack unfolded when members of Sao's gang ambushed the police vehicle, prompting Sao to grab an INSAS rifle and engage the officers, who retaliated to defend themselves. The confrontation resulted in Sao's death, while his gang members fled the scene.

The operation drew praise from opposition leader Babulal Marandi, who commended the police for delivering a strong message against organized crime. The state's DGP Anurag Gupta emphasized the need for continuous raids on jails, revealing that many criminal plots originate from behind bars, often executed with the aid of gang networks.
