Enhancing Forensics: Workshop on DNA Profiling and Evidence Preservation Held

A workshop on DNA profiling and evidence preservation was organized by the Directorate of Forensic Services, Junga, aiming to improve the expertise of medical officers. Highlighting the importance of DNA in solving crimes, the event was a part of the Himachal Pradesh Forensic Development Board's initiatives to enhance forensic capabilities.

A one-day workshop focusing on the collection and preservation of biological evidence for DNA profiling and forensic toxicology brought together medical officers from various districts. Organized by the Directorate of Forensic Services in Junga, the event aimed to refine skills essential for scientific evidence handling.

Dr. Meenakshi Mahajan, Director of Forensic Services, highlighted the increasing reliance on DNA evidence in solving crimes, especially serious offenses like sexual assault and homicide. Dr. Mahajan underscored the critical need for proper evidence management and keeping medical officers up-to-date with forensic methodologies.

The workshop, an initiative of the Himachal Pradesh Forensic Development Board, was linked to a previous meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. The State Forensic Science Laboratory routinely orchestrates specialized training for police, medical, and prosecution officials, mandated by legal provisions to bolster forensic practices.
