The Kuki-Zo Council in Manipur has ended its indefinite shutdown in the hill areas, initially enacted on March 9. Despite this, the council remains opposed to the free movement order imposed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, as per a council statement released Thursday.
The statement clarified that while the shutdown ended, the opposition to the Home Ministry's free movement directive remains strong. The council argues that the directive undermines the justice process for their community.
The protest began after a youth's death and subsequent injuries to over 40 people during clashes in Kangpokpi district. The council is steadfast in its demand for a distinct political administration to ensure justice, peace, and security, urging authorities for a peaceful resolution.
