Pressure on Russia: Stalled Peace Talks and Sanction Standoff
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer highlighted Russia's delaying tactics in peace negotiations with Ukraine. Following discussions with Western leaders in Paris, he emphasized unity among allies and rejected the idea of lifting sanctions on Moscow, citing the need for continued pressure to expedite peace talks.
Amid heightened tensions, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer accused Russia of stalling peace negotiations with Ukraine. Speaking in Paris after a meeting with Western allies, Starmer expressed concerns over Moscow's delaying tactics, suggesting that the current period was not appropriate for lifting sanctions against Russia.
Starmer had met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and representatives from the 'coalition of the willing', aiming to form a cohesive support plan for Ukraine in anticipation of a peace agreement with Russia. At a press conference, Starmer highlighted the consensus that Russia's actions were delaying progress.
The Prime Minister stressed that European allies were prepared to implement any peace deal swiftly, stressing that sanctions should remain in place to maintain pressure. He urged for progress within weeks, underlining the necessity for expedited diplomatic actions.
