The district of Gurdaspur in Punjab is set to undergo an eight-hour blackout starting at 9 pm on Thursday, as declared by district authorities. This measure is in response to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, according to officials.
The order, issued under the Civil Defense Act 1968, mandates a complete blackout in Gurdaspur from 9 pm on May 8 to 5 am the following day. The directive, guided by the governments of India and Punjab, aims to manage the sensitive situation along the Indo-Pak border effectively.
While the blackout excludes the central jail and local hospitals from full compliance, measures such as closing all windows have been ordered to ensure no light escapes outside. This decision follows Indian military action targeting nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir in response to a recent terror attack in Kashmir.
