West Bengal CM Intervenes in BSF Constable's Detention Case

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee assured Rajani, wife of detained BSF constable Purnam Kumar Sahu, of efforts to secure his release. Sahu crossed the border inadvertently and was detained by Pakistan Rangers. A possible exchange with a Pakistani Ranger is being explored.

In an international border incident, the wife of detained BSF constable Purnam Kumar Sahu, Rajani, has received assurance from West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee regarding her husband's release. The chief minister reached out to Rajani, promising relentless efforts towards securing the BSF jawan's return from Pakistani custody.

Purnam Kumar Sahu, stationed in Punjab's Ferozepur sector, accidentally crossed into Pakistani territory on April 23, leading to his detention by Pakistan Rangers. Chief Minister Banerjee engaged with Rajani over a phone call, offering to facilitate medical aid for her in-laws and pledging full support.

Efforts are underway for a potential exchange involving a Pakistani Ranger currently held by Indian forces. Meanwhile, senior TMC official Kalyan Banerjee has been tasked to liaise with the BSF director general to expedite Sahu's release.
