Collapsed Bridge Tragedy in Pune: Calls for Heightened Safety Measures

A tragedy unfolded in Pune as an iron pedestrian bridge over the Indrayani River collapsed, resulting in the loss of four lives and injuring 18 others. Overcrowding is believed to be a factor in the collapse, despite previous warnings about the bridge's condition.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis acknowledged the warnings placed by local authorities and said a contract for a new bridge has been approved and work commenced. Safety measures will be stepped up at identified hazardous spots, particularly during the monsoon season.

The Chief Minister also highlighted significant job opportunities emerging from the Vadhvan port project in Palghar, emphasizing the importance of benefiting local tribes. Training and skill development initiatives are in the pipeline to further this goal.
