Tragedy in Ahmedabad: DNA Identifies Crash Victims
After a tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad, authorities have identified 215 out of 270 victims using DNA testing, and returned 198 bodies to families. The crash involved an Air India flight bound for London that resulted in numerous casualties both on the aircraft and on the ground.

In the wake of a devastating plane crash in Ahmedabad, officials have successfully identified the majority of victims through painstaking DNA matching efforts. As of Thursday, 215 of the 270 victims have been identified.
The ill-fated Air India flight AI-171, originally destined for London, met a tragic end shortly after take-off, claiming the lives of almost all 242 passengers and crew, as well as 29 additional casualties on the ground, in the Meghaninagar area.
Dr. Rakesh Joshi of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital has confirmed the identities of victims from diverse backgrounds. Among the 198 bodies handed over to families, 149 were Indian citizens, alongside several foreign nationals. Meanwhile, six injured individuals remain hospitalized in stable condition.
